地層からの空間-時間の復元をめざして堆積地質学の発展と未来  [in Japanese] Development of sedimentary geology and its feauture in Japan  [in Japanese]

過去の堆積環境の研究は, 堆積地質学の主要な研究分野の一つである。堆積相解析とシーケンス層序学は, この分野の解析に格段の進歩をもたらした。日本人研究者は優れた研究を国内外で発表し, 日本の堆積地質学は, 世界の動向に遅れることなく発展してきた。この小論では, 1985年以降の日本におけるこれらの研究例をたどりながら, 21世紀の堆積地質学の発展と役割について考える。

Research of ancient sedimentary environments is one of the most important and interesting fields in sedimentary geology. The field has made a remarkable progress by virtue of sedimentary facies analysis and sequence stratigraphy in the last several decades. A number of Japanese researchers have presented many contributory papers in Japan and abroad, and the progress of this field in Japan has been made concurrently with world activities. The author reviews these articles and focuses on the future development and role of sedimentary geology.
