岩盤クリープと崩壊 : 構造地質学から災害地質学へ  [in Japanese] Gravitational mass rock creep and landslides : From structural geology to hazard geology  [in Japanese]

Abstract

There have been occurring many landslides, from small ones to very large ones with volumes of millions of cubic meters, causing severe damages to human beings. These landslides must have had geological basic causes, but they have not been examined thoroughly enough in the light of geology. I report deformation of rocks by gravitational mass rock creep, which is important not only in structural geology but also in the study of landslides, as an example of a bridge between structural geology and hazard geology. Mass rock creep makes various kinds of non-tectonic folds, faults, and other kinds of fractures, and degradates mountain rock slopes to make favorable conditions for landslides. These deformational features and characteristic landforms, such as linear depressions and multiple ridges, give us a clue to predict at least some of future large landslides.
