Abstract
To elucidate masseter muscle volume, we examined 9 donor bodies by laser scanner, spiral X-ray CT, and water displacement. After the masseter muscle volume expanded as a result of perfusion fixation, shrinkage of muscle occurred. After 3 months, the masseter muscle volume was decreased to 80% with immersion in 40% alcohol. As a result, it is possible to speculate the volume of a living body by measuring the volume of a donor body. There was a 5% error in the measurement of the volume between the spiral X-ray CT and the water displacement. This study suggests that the muscle volume of a living body could be measured by 3-D reconstruction images of CT.
