Abstract

It is very important to keep in mind the losses of transformer while designing Switching Power Supply. It is possible to calcurate the total losses depending on ESR and current waveshape in the case of forward converter. Accurate analysis of ESR is possible by simulation but it requires a large time in modeling for complex structure, which is not practical. While manufacturing trancformer for trial in practical system design, it is effective to have relative comparisons of ESR of transformers having various shapes and turns without the help of simulation, but is not available till now. In this paper, the simple calculation method of magnetic field in the surrounding of the coil and ESR of transformer of forward converter is presented.
