Abstract

動画像符号化におけるコンピュータビジョン (CV) の役割を二つの視点から述べる. 第1の視点はCVの役割はシーンの3次元構造を反映した動画像のソースモデルとこれを利用した画像符号化/表現の具体的手法を与えることであるとの立場に基づく. この視点から高能率符号化の現状と課題を述べ, シーンの3次元構造を反映した表現の重要性と一般自然画像符号化だけでなく合成画像も符号化対象とするよう画像符号化の枠組みを広くとらえていくことを主張する. 第2の視点はタスク実行のための選択的なシーン記述が重要であるとの立場に基づく. この視点からタスクと文脈に依存した符号化器制御の重要性を述べる.
