Abstract
With the realization of B-ISDN, broadcast services will be a large part of the network traffic. In these services, the same information is distributed to lots of viewers by multicast connection. This service form is quite different from those of current point-to-point services. In this service, current network topologies may lower the quality of services or may increase the construction costs. In this paper, the hierarchical network topology is optimized under the assumption that the broadcast services will account for a large part of the network traffic. The difference between the destination distribution for point-to-point services and that for broadcast services is considered, and the construction costs for various parameters are calculated.
