Abstract

The recent growth of Internet has made the real time communication applications (video conferencing, IP telephone) a wide-spread reality. The network elements (routers, transmission lines) also play a great role to the end-end network performance. The challenge is to find where exactly the network performances do decrease (delay, jitter etc). The existing systems can view the quality only from the application level. But there is no effective methods to detect these performance metrics from the network (IP) level. In this work, we propose a method to measure network performance metrics (delay, jitter, packet loss) occurred at network level from RTP traffic. We have verified our measurement methods by experiments.
