表面反射特性および3次元形状の知覚に及ぼす陰影の効果  [in Japanese] Effect of Shading on Perception of 3D Shape and Perception of Reflectance properties  [in Japanese]

Abstract

物体表面の陰影から、物体の3次元形状と反射率関数を推定する人間の能力について調べた。はじめに、陰影のみが奥行き手がかりとなる画像を用い、異なる反射率関数により陰影を変化させた時の奥行き知覚量を計測した。その結果、陰影が3次元形状知覚にほとんど影響を与えないことを示した。次に、知覚される表面の3次元形状を表面輪郭線の2次元形状により制御し、その表面上の陰影から反射率関数を推定させる心理実験を行った。その結果、知覚した3次元形状と陰影から人間が表面反射率関数の推定を行っている場合があることが示唆された。

We conducted two experiments to investigate the contribution of shading to the perception of 3D shape and the perception of reflectance properties. The observers in the first experiment were required to estimate the depth between two points on a surface with shading. The results indicate that shading did not significantly influence depth perception. In the second experiment, observers were required to select an image having similar surface properties to a reference image with fixed shape and reflectance function, among images which had a different shape from the reference and several reflectance functions. The results indicate that shading was used as cue in estimating reflectance functions.
