A Cycle-Accurate Simulator Toolkit for Soft-Core Processors

In processor-based system developments, processor simulators strongly influence development and debugging time of a design. However, like in our Soft-Core Processor development environment, where a simulator must cover a wide range of processor architecture, building a fast and efficient simulator is a time-consuming task. This paper discusses a simulator toolkit which can be used for building an optimized cycle accurate soft-core processor simulator. Using this toolkits and a related description language, a simulator developer can easily develop a processor simulator with a set of user-modified parameters, including instruction sets, word width etc.
