Abstract
The electron cyclotron resonance heating is a promising method to generate nuclear fusion reaction by irradiating high power millimeter wave to plasma.To obtain high power millimeter wave gyrotrons of large size are used.In such a large-size gyrotron, many competitive modes are liable to be produced, resulting in the deterioration of heating efficiency.In our research, we propose an idea that the introduction of the waveguide with periodic structure suppresses the unwanted modes based on the similar principle to a DBR laser.With a proper formulation of the periodic structure, we have calculated the reflection coefficients of wanted and unwanted modes as a function of the length and the amplitude of the periodic perturbation.
