Abstract

物質と物体は本質的に異なる概念クラスに属する。物体においては「同一性」は一つ一つの個体のレベルで論じられる。他方、物質においては「個における同一性」は存在せず、任意の部分あるいは切片の物質的素性の同一性によって同一性は判断される。本研究は、この概念理解、つまり「存在論的認識」の学習に言語固有の文法カテゴリーがどのような役割を果たすのかについて、日米の比較発達実験の結果に照らして議論する。
Objects and substances are of funcamentally different ontological kinds. This paper concerns how children come to know this ontological distinction, and whether and how language-specific grammatical categorization affects people's construal of a given entity as individuated or non-individuated.
