1. The silver-plated preparation of the cortex of T. vorax and electron microphotographs of ultra-thin sections of the same parts were observed comparatively. 2. The third and fourth silver lines in giant individuals were often observed when animals at the predivision stage were cultured in axenic media which have undergone a temperature shift. 3. According to the electron microphotographs, the cortex is divided into the pellicle, blister and the inner part. The blister is divided into two parts at the center between the ciliary rows by a cytoplasmic ridge or a hollow (groove) of the pellicle. 4. A cilium comes out from a ciliary hollow. The right edges of these hollows often connect one another and run length-wise. The kinetodesmal fibril runs in the inner part and its top touches the bottom of the next kinetosome. 5. The division line of the blister at the center between the ciliary rows corresponds to the secondary silver line. Especially, both edges of the hollow (groove) seem to correspond to the secondary and tertiary silver lines. 6. The primary silver line shows the ciliary row. However, it is not the kinetodesma but a line on the pellicle or in its neighbourhood. The right edge line of the ciliary hollows seems to correspond to the primary silver line. The dots on the silver line were produced as silve precipitates in the cilia or their hollows.
