Abstract

Prey foraging efficiency by the foundresses of Polistes chinensis was estimated at 57.6% throughout pre-emergence phase, being considerably higher than those reported previously. The value was especially very high during the old-larval and pupal periods when the foundresses hunted large numbers of sawfly larvae, suggesting that such high values were achieved by frequent foraging for this food item.
