The life history of the stream-dwelling bug Aphelocheirus vittatus was investigated in two populations of the Yoro and Niizaki Rivers, central Japan. The breeding season ranged from spring to autumn. The immature stages (egg+nymph+pre-oviposition period) were estimated to last for about 1.5 years. Adults live through two breeding seasons. Such longer immature and adult stages in A. vittatus and overwitering in all instars were unique in aquatic Heteroptera species.
