The Phyline Plant Bug Genus Psallus Fieber in Japan (Heteroptera : Miridae : Phylinae)

Abstract

The phyline plant bug genus Psallus Fieber of Japan is reviewed. Twenty-one species are recognized and listed. Eight new species are described : Psallus pullus, P. roseoguttatus, P. aterrimus, P. edoensis, P. miyamotoi, P. takaii, P. nigricornis and P. oyashimanus. A new subgenus Calopsallus is proposed to accommodate the new species P. roseoguttatus and three related members from eastern continental Eurasia. Psallus ulmi Kerzhner et Josifov, P. haematodes (Gmelin), P. falleni Reuter and P. salicis (Kirschbaum) are reported from Japan for the first time. A key is provided to distinguish all Japanese species.
