Abstract
The Japanese species of the ptiliid genus Acrotrichis are revised. Sixteen species of the genus, including four new species (meridiana, ryukyuensis, pulchellipennis, and latipedes) and two newly recorded species (montandoni and thoracica) from Japan, are reported. The species are classified into five species groups (grandicollis-, sericans-, kubotai-, cursitans-, and lewisii-groups) on the basis of adult morphology. Acrotrichis meridiana may be thelytokous, since no males were found among more than 150 adult specimens of the species.
