Bionomics of Drosophilidae (Diptera) in Hokkaido : X. Some Tree Sap Feeders

Abstract

The annual life cycles of five species feeding mainly on tree sap are described on the basis of data obtained by field collections and outdoor rearing. Drosophila tsigana repeats mainly two, partially one, generations per year in and near Sapporo ; D. coracina and D. throckmortoni do two or three generations ; Amiota conifera takadai and A. okadai do two generations. All of them overwinter as adults, though it is still somewhat questionable in D. coracina.
