Fauna of Horse Flies (Diptera : Tabanidae) on a Pasture in Petrijevci, Eastern Croatia

Abstract

The faunistic research of horse flies on a pasture in Petrijevci, Eastern Croatia, resulted in the recording of 26 species, of which Haematopota bigoti and Hybomitra ucrainica, were new for Croatia. Eight species, Ha. subcylindrica, Tabanus bromius, Ha. pluvialis, Chrysops parallelogrammus, Hy. ciureai, T. autumnalis, T. maculicornis and T. tergestinus make up 93.5% of horse fly fauna on the pasture in Petrijevci. Horse flies can be classified into two biological types by their active terms, long active species such as Ha. subcylindrica, Ha. pluvialis and Ch. parallelogrammus, and short active species such as T. bromius, Hy. ciureai, T. maculicornis and T. tergestinus.
