Abstract
In the Papilionid butterfly, Parnassius glacialis BUTLER, the correlation of fore-wing length to altitude was studied. The male butterflies were collected at 20 places in Gifu prefecture, central Japan, in 1991. The wing length showed a significant negative correlation with altitude (r=-0.807, p<0.01, n=20), and the regression equation was y=-0.005x+37.3 (y : Fore-wing length, X : Altitude). Annual change of fore-wing length of the male was also studied for 6 years in Itoshiro, Shirotori town Gifu Prefecture. However, the means of each year were not significantly different (ANOVA, P=0.713).
