Abstract
Matrix (oral secretion of wasps) to bind plant material was first detected by chemical and SEM analyses of a nest of a primitively eusocial wasp, Eustenogaster calyptodoma, collected in Central Malay Peninsula. However, the nitrogen content, which can be an index of quantity of oral secretion contained, was very small, less than 0.9% in this nest. This strongly suggests that stenogastrine wasps have ability to produce the oral secretion, though it lies at a level lower than that of polistine and vespine wasps.
