日本産チャタテムシ目覚書 : 1 ハグルマチャタテの科の標徴について  [in Japanese] Notes on the Psocoptera of Japan : 1. On the familial character of a psocid species, Matsumuraiella radiopicta Enderlein (Psocidae)  [in Japanese]

Abstract

In this country little taxonomic work has been carried out on the outdoor species of Psocoptera after 1941, when the scheme of classification was principally founded on venational characters. Therefore, only scanty information is now available, even on significant familial characters of these insects, such as shapes of mouth parts and genitalic structures of both sexes. In this paper, a brief note is given on a common psocid species, Matsumuraiella radiopicta Enderlein, which has been considered to belong to Psocidae, with special reference to the above-mentioned characters and on the variability of venation, together with some biological observations. Of 118 specimens so far collected, the venations of 74 individuals as to the areola postica of both wings agreed with those of the original description. But the remainder showed variable venations as shown in Table 1 and Fig. 1. The diagnostic characters of mouth parts and genitalia of both sexes show marked disagreement with those of the members of the family Psocidae (Fig. 2). I have observed that this insect feeds exclusively on grayish moulds on the bamboo leaves and that the eggs deposited in groups are covered by a silken web. Therefore, it seems reasonable to conclude that this species undoubtedly belongs to Polypsocidae Roesler 1944 (nec Pearman 1936), although Roesler put this species in Antipsocinae, which is a subfamily of Psocidae.
