Queen behaviour of two bigynic colonies of Polistes biglumis was observed before worker eclosion from June to early July, 1980, in Sapporo, northern Japan. Size of associating queens differed slightly in one colony and distinctly in the other. Although dominant-subordinate relationship was apparently present judged from their behaviour, neither the monopoly of oviposition by the "dominant" nor the higher frequency of extranidal activities in the "subordinate" than in the dominant was clear. Both the associating queens were inseminated and had developed ovaries. These stand in marked contrast to what have commonly been reported in European and North American polygynies.
