Abstract
The genus Eobrachycentrus, previously known only from western North America, is recorded from Japan ; assigned to it are E. vernalis (BANKS), E. niigatai (KOBAYASHI) and E. kitayamanus (TSUDA), all originally described under Bracycentrus, and a new species E. propinquus. Larvae on which the name Micrasema oharensis IWATA was based are also of Eobrachycentrus, but the name is a nomen dubium. Japanese species placed under Brachycentrus are B. bilobatus MARTYNOV ; B. americanus BANKS, the senior synonym for Oligoplectrodes potanini MARTYNOV ; B. kuwayamai sp. nov. Brachycentrus japonicus IWATA, based on larvae, remains unidentifiable. Five species of Micrasema have been described from Japan. Revised keys to the genera of Brachycentridae known in Japan are offered for adult and larval stages.
