サフロール及びイソサフロールよりサフロオイゲノール及びイソサフロオイゲノールの生成に就て  [in Japanese] On the Formation of Safroeugenol and Isosafroeugenol from Safrol and Isosafrol  [in Japanese]

Abstract

By the action of magnesium methyl iodide on safrol, isosafrol and hydiosafrol at about 80℃ for 5-6 hours and subsequent steam distiilation, the dioxymethylene ring is broken open, yielding the substances called safroeugenol, isosafroeugenol and hydrosafrocugenol respectively. The safroeugenol was proved to be 1-Allyl-3-oxy-4-ethoxybenzene and may be converted into isosafroeugenol by the prolonged action of hot caustic potash solution. Its phenylurethane melts at 57.5-59℃. The isosafroeugenol is 1-Propenyl-3-oxy-4-ethoxybenzene, a white crystalline substance melting at 86℃. The melting points of its acetate, benzoate, methylether and phenylurethane are 67°, 59°, 63° and 123° respectively. The hydrosafroeugenol is a solid substance melting at 42.5℃. Its constitution is 1-Propenyl-3-oxy-4-ethoxybenzene. It may be obtained from safroeugenol by the catalytic reduction or by the action of metallic sodium and alcohol on isosafroeugenol. The detailed description of this investigation shall be published in the earliest number of the "Acta phytochimica."
