Affinity for inorganic carbon in photosynthesis of Euglena gracilis Z was higher in the cells grown in ordinary air than in those grown in 4% CO_2. The cells grown in ordinary air accumulated inorganic carbon in the cells to the level far in excess of that expected from passive diffusion due to pH gradient across the cell surface membrane.
