Abstract

琵琶湖岸には, 数種の海浜植物が分布している。これらの海浜植物が琵琶湖に侵入したのは, 地質学的な証拠から更新世初期であるとされてきた(Takaya 1963)。琵琶湖岸に見られる海浜植物の一つであるハマヒルガオ[Calystegia soldanella(L.)Rocm.et Schult.]について, 種子を海岸および琵琶湖岸の集団から採取し, その長さと一粒重を計測した。種子の大きさを表す両方の形質で海岸と琵琶湖岸の集団は有意に異っており, 琵琶湖岸の種子は小型であった。また, 日本海側および太平洋側の海岸と琵琶湖岸から採取した個体を京都で栽培し, 花および種子について調査したが, ともに琵琶湖岸のものがより小さかった。これらの調査結果によって示された琵琶湖岸でのハマヒルガオの分化の要因について自然選択, 長期間の隔離およびそれらの相互作用の観点から考察した。

On the shore of Lake Biwa, some populations of the seashore plants are found. Takaya (1963) pointed from geological evidences that these plants invaded into Lake Biwa from seashore at the early Pleistocene, when the lake was linked with the sea by a broad and stagnant channel. Calystegia soldanella (L.) Roem. et Schult., one of the seashore plants growing on both localities, was sampled from seashore and shore of Lake Biwa, and their seed and flower characters were investigated. The result showed an apparent differentiation between the plants from seashore and those from the lakeshore. The seed size of the lakeshore plant was significantly smaller than that of the seashore plant. The flower size of the lakeshore plant was also smaller. This differentiation can be attributed to both differential selection pressures in seashore and in lakeshore habitats, and long-term isolation.
