As the art of the Twentieth Century progressed, technology was introduced to plastic expression. The purpose of this study is to research the concept of Moholy's plastic expression of light, in particular the concept of 'Optical'. This study examines the formation of his plastic expression, and compares the meaning of 'Optical' with that of 'Visual' Moholy's interest in the plastic expression of light began in Berlin in 1922 when he took note of light effect on material. He delineated this effect and in doing so related plastic expression to that of 'Optical' - the physiological process of seeing with light as the medium.
