A134 Validation of Simulated Underexpanded Supersonic Jet Noise :

Three dimensional simulation of an underexpanded supersonic jet at a fully expanded jet Mach number of 1.71,a design Mach number of 1.33 and a Reynolds number of 10^5 is performed to investigate the noise emission mechanism from the jet. The present simulation is performed based upon an accurate numerical code, where the fourth order upwind scheme is used for spatial discretization, and a third order Runge-kutta method is employed in time integration. Experiments are being conducted for the jet under consideration. Both acoustic and flowfield measurements are being compared with simulated results to validate the present code and clarify the mechanism of sound emission from the jet.
