Abstract

The magnetization-vs-temperature curves have been investigated for Ni3Mn alloys whose degrees of long-range order spread from 0 to 0.95 and for the 80 at.% Ni-Mn alloy. These relative spontaneous magnetization vs reduced temperature curves satisfy the law of corresponding states and fit the theoretical curves derived from the Brillouin function, whose total angular momentum quantum numbers are the integral multiples of 1/2. Based on these results, the strengths of the Weiss molecular field at 0 K were calculated. They depend strongly on the parameters of short-range order, τ 's, and have the same tendencies as the local moments of Mn atom vs τ calculated using a new theory of the finite-temperature magnetism of the Ni-Mn alloy, which takes account of the local environment effect.
