Abstract

This paper presents an overview of the evolutionary computation (EC), one of the rapidly growing area in the computer science. The EC mainly consists of genetic algorithms (GA), genetic programmings (GP), evolutionary programmings (EP), and evolution strategies (ES). First we give a brief description of such evolutionary algorithms as GA, GP, EP, and ES. Then, we focus on the applications of the EC to the selected problems in mathematics, physics, economics, robotics, and interactive design methods with human evaluation of the fitness. Finally, we make a brief survey of some topics related to the methodology in the EC, such as memetic algorithms, particle swarm optimizations, and differential evolutions.
