Abstract

Resonant tunneling in double-barrier structure under electric field is studied numerically by potential step approximation method. The calculation is performed by varying the step numbers. The peak values of the transmission spectra at the resonance are compared with those obtained from the analytical expression and the difference between them is discussed. Moreover, the probability density of an electron wave function is calculated and the confining feature is examined. It is confirmed that the step approximation method is useful for estimating the value of the transmission coefficient and the wave function when the electric field is applied to the above structures.
