The aucuba fruit midge is morphologically quite similar to the ampelopsis fruit midge, Asphondylia baca, but is biologically distinguished from it and is newly described as Asphondylia aucubae. Information is given for the two species on their host plant range, gall, life history, parasitoids and geographical distribution.
