Abstract
Morphologies of larval instars of the alate viviparous female, gynopara and male of Aphis gossypii GLOVER are described. The three morphs of larvae are distinguished by the following points : 1) Alate viviparous females having no wing pads on the first instar larval stage, but having short blunt setae on the 8th abdominal tergite. 2) Gynoparae and males having the first instar larval stage which is marked by the appearance of undeveloped wing pads, and having thin pointed setae more than 40μm in length on the 8th abdominal tergite in the fourth instar larval stage. 3) The larvae of males having brown body color, but the larvae of gynoparae having green to dark green color, and the males having a cluster of 2-14 short setae on the frontal margin of anal plate both in the third and fourth instar larval stages. In particular, the stages can readily be understood by the developmental degree of the wing pads.
