Natural Hybridization between Leptocarabus (L.) procerulus and L. (L.) kumagaii (Coleoptera, Carabidae)

Abstract

Morphologically intermediate individuals between Leptocarabus (L.) procerulus CHAUDOIR and L. (L.) kumagaii KIMURA et KOMIYA were found in a limited area on the borders between the ranges of these two species. Because of their external or genitalic characters and of the loci where they were collected, they are inferred to be hybrids between the two species. Adult seasonal activity in the population of the two species and their hybrids suggest that they are distinct species. Their hybrids are abnormal on egg production.
