Abstract
A total of 21 Xylocopa nests was collected during the winter of 1990 from the costal forest regions around Ishigaki Island, Southern Japan. Nine of these nests contained a total of 33 over-wintering adults (22 females, 11 males) of X. albinotum. The number of over-wintering adults tended to increase with nest size. The condition of the adults varied but was usually good. The gasters of all over-wintering adults contained large fat bodies.
