Abstract
The iyonus and kisonus groups of the subgenus Protocypus from Japan are dealt with. Five new species, Ocypus iyonus, O. hagai, O. sabi, O. kisonus and O. kendappa are described. Keys to species of the two species-groups are given, and the apical part of the 8th abdominal sternum in the male and the aedeagus are illustrated for comparison. Some aspects on the phylogenetic relationships and distribution of the Japanese members of the subgenus Protocypus are discussed.
