Abstract

Species composition and seasonal abundance of ground beetles in paddy fields including adjoining levees were studied mainly by pitfall trapping for two years, 1981 and 1983. A total of 3, 330 individuals belonging to 53 species of Carabidae and Brachinidae were caught. Five species, Pheropsophus jessoensis, Amara chalcites, Platynus magnus, Harpalus jureceki and H. tridens, were dominant. Seasonal abundance of the dominant species and comparison of the beetle faunae seen in different habitats are also described.
