Reorganization of the Genus Psiloptera (Coleoptera, Buprestidae)

Abstract

In view of designation by M. J. THOMSON (1878 a) of the type species of the "coupes" (=subgenera) in the genus Psiloptera SOLIER, 1833, the name Lampetis SPINOLA, 1837, must be transferred to the so-called group Damarsila (since Ch. KERREMANS, 1903), and the name Damarsila THOMSON, 1878, must fall in a synonym of Oedisterna LACORDAIRE, 1857. For the group currently called Lampetis (since Ch. KERREMANS, 1903), the name Spinthoptera CASEY, 1909, given for the North American species must be raised. Apateum SPINOLA, 1837 (=Apatea THOMSON, 1878), including Alampetis THOMSON, 1878, given for some Malagasy species is regarded as the genus independent from Polybothris SPINOLA, 1837, because of the existence of a median carina on the pronotum, instead of a median groove.
