Abstract
The following important bionomic features of a Japanese bumblebee, Bombus (Thoracobombus) deuteronymus maruhanabachi SAKAGAMI et ISHIKAWA, are given based on the examination of 13 nests : 1) Both surface and underground nest sites observed, but the latter more frequently ; 2) only mild attack at nest removal ; 3) facultative presence of wax nest envelope ; 4) egg cells relatively flat or dome-like, not primed with pollen and built on tops of cocoons or in depressions among cocoons ; 5) presence of pollen pockets for both worker and sexual brood cells ; 6) batch arrangement basically ringlike ; 7) colony size relatively small, though size difference among colonies remarkable. Most of these characters in this form coincide with those in Japanese and European consubgeners.
