Schrankia costaestrigalis (STEPHENS) (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae) Utilizing Underground Spaces

Abstract

The characteristic of using underground spaces through nearly all stages in Schrankia costaestrigalis (STEPHENS) is reported for the first time. This species is recorded as a pest of Vicia faba L. (Leguminosae) which is cultivated on 3-10 cm diameter blocks of grey lowland soil in Tanegashima Is., Japan. The biology, immature stages and adult are described.
