抄録

Scheduling problems are often formulated as combinatorial optimization problems in which processing times are treated as detreministic. In real production systems, however, processing times are not always deterministic and vary on a variety of reasons. Under these circumstances, it is not clear if getting an optimal schedule and sequencing jobs and operations accordingly gurantees the optimality of the resulting schedule. In this paper, we study and analyze experimentally and quantitiatively the effectivenss of deterministic scheduling under the presence of processing time variability on job shop systems. The results show that it is worthwhile to make a better, if not optimal, schedule based on prior information and follow the generated schedule even under processing time variability.
