Abstract
An experimental study was carried out to find strategies for utilizing the advantage of ethanol blend in recent diesel engines. For this purpose, characteristics of performance, combustion and emissions of ethanol blend and neat diesel fuel were compared in a DI single-cylinder engine equipped with a high-pressure common rail fuel injection and cold EGR systems. The results indicate that PM emission reduction is achievable with ethanol blend without fuel consumption and combustion noise penalties at high EGR rate.
