Abstract
Somatic chromosomes of four plant-taxa in Batan Island and the Yaeyama Group, Ryukyu Islands were observed by the standard aceto-orcein staining method. In the present study, Begonia fenicis (Begoniaceae) of the two populations showed the chromosome number of 2n=56 for the first time. Ophiorrhiza kuroiwae (Rubiaceae) of the two populations showed the chromosome number of 2n=22 which was confirmed the previous report. Crepidiastrum lanceolatum (Asteraceae) of the two populations showed the chromosome number of 2n=10 which was confirmed the previous report. Centella asiatica (Apiaceae) from Batan Island showed the chromosome number of 2n=18,and was cytologically closer to that from the Yaeyama Groups than that from the Honshu, Japan.
