Abstract
The functional properties and form of office chairs produced in Japan after War II have changed more than another office furniture. Especially, many reclining systems on office chairs have been developed to correspond to posture change at office work. It is important sample to explain how did ergonomics concepts have been adopted on chair development. This paper intends to make clear the transition and part of ergonomics concepts. Some changes on office chairs that were produced after War II were affected by ergonomics concepts. Also, the changes of backrest reclining mechanism synclonized with seat pan, that were developed after office automation at 1980s, were affected by ergonomics concepts to decrease a feeling of oppression on the thigh.
