自己意識と公私社会認識に関わる行動との関連(坂井 勇教授 退官記念論文集)  [in Japanese] Relationship Between Self-Consciousness and the Social Cognitive Behaviors Regarding the Public-Private Distinction.  [in Japanese]

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between public and private self-consciousness and social cognitive behaviors with regard to the public-private distinction ; university students were the participants. Four hundred fifty-four undergraduates participated in this questionnaire study. The self-consciousness scale for Japanese (Sugawara, 1984) and the social cognitive behavior scale (Yamagata, 2004) were used for the questionnaire in this study. Using the results of the self-consciousness scale, we assigned the participants into two groups: one with high public self-consciousness scores and one with high private self-consciousness scores. The factor analysis of the items on the social cognitive behavior scale revealed that there were four main factors : private use of public objects and materials, emotional expression in public, personal appearance in public, and manners in public. The total scores for these factors showed that significant differences between the two participant groups were found for manners in public and the private use of public objects and materials. The results were interpreted according to the theory of differences in public and private self-consciousness.
