抄録

The purpose of this research is to clarify the positive and negative effects of social support among teachers. A questionnaire survey was completed by 190 public elementary and junior high school teachers in Japan. The results were as follows : (1) Positive effects of social support were found to consist of : "instrumental support" and "socio-emotional support". (2) Negative effects of social support were found to consist of : "a supporter's unsuitable behavior", "an unsuitable support", and "a mismatch between the supportee's needs and the supporter's behavior". These results were disscussed in relation to a theoretical model. In addition, investigations were conducted as to how teachers should be supported by others.
