This paper concerns the research which attempt the improvement of the capability of reinforced concrete structures using high strength reinforcing bars. In the first chapter, strength grades of high strength reinforcing bars, which are now in use in foreign countries, and several devices about the shape of the bars to improve the bond strength, were reviewed. In the second chapter, synopses of author's research works on the cold-twisted high strength deformed bars were described. Items of the research works are following: 1. Effect of cold-twisting grade on the strength, ductility and bending capacity of the steel bar. 2. Effect of both cold-twisting grade and surface deformation of the bar on bond strength. 3. Anchorage capacity of bend bars in girder-column joint. 4. Effect of high strength of the bars as longitudinal reinforcement in beam. 5. Effect of high strength of the bars as web reinforcement in beam. In the final chapter, author discussed the saving quantity of the steel bars and the improvement of the capability of reinforced concrete structures such as widening of the girder span or increasing of stories of the building, assuming that the high strength reinforcing bars having yield stresses of 3000, 4000 and 5000 kg/cm^2 would be put to practical use.
