Ten years have passed since the creation of a new subject "World-History A" at the senior high school level in 1989. The aim of this subject is to emphasize the importance of studying "World History" mainly modern history, for students. However, researchers have not studied the new subject. Furthermore teachers of "World-History" have not reported about educational practice of the teaching contents and methods for the subject. In this paper We suggest two clear points. Firstly "The Modern World System", which was advocated by Immanuel Wallerstein, is effective as the curriculum for "World-History A". "The Modern World-System" shows how we can understand the concept of a world-unit through "World-History". Secondly, the method of historical description going back from the present to the past, is useful for students as a form of instruction of "World History A". Through the introduction of this historical description, students have showed interest and concern about historical learning, therefore their historical-view and historical-thinking have been cultivated. We clearly analyze the character of "World History A" focusing on the curriculum and instruction. We also propose new teaching plans of the curriculum and instruction to meet the current needs of senior high schools.
