Abstract
In order to elucidate the diagnostic significance of transaminase activity in forensic chemistry, the effect of hemolysis in cadaveric blood and the actual state of the enzyme release from organs were experimentally investigated in relevance to causes of death and time lapse after death. 1) The transaminase activity of cadaveric serum was found little affected even by a high degree of hemolysis, necessitating no correction. 2) With the prerequisite that postmortem has to be made at various points of time lapse after death, serum GOT was of diagnostic value in finding out causes of death at an early stage. While, organ GOT, particularly myocardial GOT, had diagnostic value until a relatively late stage. 3) Changes in serum and organ GPT's were little related to causes of death, being of little value diagnostically. 4) The transaminase activity of cadaveric serum could hardly an index estimating the time lapse after death. In conclusion, the study of myocardial GOT at various points of time lapse after death may well serve to elucidate causes of unknown endogenous sudden death.
