The Diagonal Scale has been employed for the precision reading of Electrical Measuring Instruments. Having searched for the history of precision readings in the measuring instruments such as Astrolabes, Tyco's Quadrant or Surveying instruments which employed Nonius Scale, Diagonal Scale and Micrometer Drive Scale in Europe, the US and Japan from the fourteen century, it was found that Edward Weston in the US employed Diagonal Scales for the precision electrical meters in the last half of the nineteenth century. This paper describes that those precision instruments with Diagonal Scale have been used widely in the world and that small errors caused by the scale configuration how they were corrected. It is learned that the Diagonal Scale was the common technology which has been used widely for long time over 500 years longer than Vernier Scale or Micrometer Scale, and that the Standard Precision Electrical Measuring Instruments with Diagonal Scale have been manufactured by 1980s in Japan, and there were other instruments with similar precision reading scales such as modern electronics wave form oscillator. Further study is expected analyzing how those Diagonal Scale technologies were transferred from Europe to China, the US and Japan.
